How to reset YouTube Kids recommendations and pause history
Clear old watch and search signals, pause new history and decide whether recommendations should remain part of the experience.

To reset YouTube Kids recommendations, use the linked parent's Family Center to clear the child's watch and search history. If you also want new viewing to stop shaping recommendations, turn on Pause watch history and Pause search history. Clearing removes existing signals; pausing concerns future ones. Neither action turns the catalog into a parent-approved list.
Before clearing anything
Check whether there are recent videos you want to find again or discuss with the child. A reset removes a useful route back to that activity. Save the names of any favorites you intend to add through the normal parent approval process.
Confirm the exact child profile too. On a family account with several children, clearing the wrong profile changes someone else's experience without fixing the original problem.
If your purpose is to inspect activity, read the watch-history guide first.
Clear the old signals
Sign into YouTube with the parent account linked to the child. Open You, Settings and Family Center on mobile. On desktop, use the profile and settings menu to reach Family Center. Select the child's profile or account, choose Clear history and read the confirmation before accepting.
YouTube Kids also provides a clear-history control in its parent settings. Enter the parent check, select the child's profile and use the clear-history option.
Do not clear app storage or delete a Google account as a substitute. Those actions solve different problems and can create unnecessary setup work.
Pause future watch and search history
In the selected child's Family Center controls, switch on Pause watch history. If you also want future searches excluded from recommendation signals, enable Pause search history.
The child's viewing may continue while those signals are paused. Be aware that future history will be less useful for reviewing activity. Decide whether that privacy and recommendation tradeoff fits the family.
Pausing without clearing is a different choice: old signals can remain while new ones stop accumulating. Use it when you want to preserve the existing record.
What the child should expect
The home screen may look unfamiliar after a reset. Previously easy-to-find repeats may no longer be in the same place. Explain that you changed the recommendations rather than blaming the app.
Check the resulting screen from the child's profile. The absence of a favorite thumbnail does not mean the video has been removed from YouTube. It may still be available through an approved or shared item.
When resetting is the wrong maintenance routine
If you reset every few days because the same kind of unwanted material returns, the problem may be the selection model. The broader guide to unwanted recommendations explains when to choose a limited library instead.
Also note that turning Search off in YouTube Kids clears history and resets recommendations as part of that change. If you already did that, another immediate reset may achieve little.
A reset is useful for a mixed-up profile or stale viewing signals. It is not a permanent content filter.
